State-of-the-Art Stock & Custom Water Transformer Manufacturer Offering Top Quality at Wholesale Prices Water Transformer A Water Transformer, or water oiled transformer, plays a critical role in helping to keep electrical generation systems reliable.  A Water Transformer comes into play with power plant generators, which are the backbone of our power supply.  These massive transformers produce electricity that must be converted to high voltage for efficient movement across wires to substations located near factories, businesses, schools, and homes.  The heat lost during the conversion from high voltage is small in terms of overall percentage; however, the overall quantity of heat lost can be quite large.  This large amount of heat must be removed away from the transformer or it will create overheating, creating damage, or even the possibility of destroying the transformer altogether.    The Water Transformer handles the dissipation of this dangerous heat through its windings which are immersed in an enhanced mineral oil.  This enhanced mineral oil cools the transformer when it is circulated.  The oil has inherent insulating properties that allow it to remain stable even at high temperatures and protect against stray current paths.  As the transformer windings are cooled, heat lost is transferred to water.  A Water Transformer is considered extremely efficient and is often utilized where water is plentiful, such as hydro power applications.  After the Water Transformer dissipates heat into the water, the water must be discharged back to its source for environmental reasons, or the water temperature must be lowered before recirculation through the transformer cooler.  The transformer oil cooler is sized in direct correlation to the amount of heat that needs to be dissipated.  Factors for consideration include size, configuration, and design.  Some Water Transformer designs incorporate the potential for environmentally adverse conditions that could cause potential problems.  A leak detector plays a part in this process by ensuring water and transformer oil do not mix, which is very dangerous.     The Manufacturing Process for a Water Transformer The Water Transformer must meet a myriad of safety specifications and its manufacturing production is strictly controlled.  Some of the quality control processes to look for during the manufacturing of a water transformer include the following: The water transformer’s internal surfaces remain clean during manufacturing, especially those that come in contract with the enhanced mineral oil.  This is important because any particles that get into the oil or the windings can greatly undermine the life and performance of the water transformer.  Metal particles can, especially, cause contamination to the oil so a clean manufacturing environment is essential.  The water transformer’s use of flushing systems, particle counting systems, and electronic monitoring to further ensure the protection and long life of the transformer.
